Emeritus Professor of Mathematics and Senior Research Investigator, Imperial College

David Hand is Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at Imperial College London, where he previously chaired the Statistics Section of the Mathematics Department, the Research Board of the Data Science Institute, and the Mathematics in Banking and Finance programme of the Institute for Mathematical Sciences. He serves on the Board of the UK Statistics Authority and the European Statistical Advisory Committee, and is a former president of the Royal Statistical Society. For eight years he was Chief Scientific Advisor to Winton Capital Management. He has received many awards for his research, including the Guy Medal of the Royal Statistical Society, the Box Medal from the European Network for Business and Industrial Statistics, and the Credit Collections and Risk award for Contributions to the Credit Industry. His latest book, to be published by Princeton University Press in January, is called Dark Data: Why What You Don’t Know Matters.
